Terry arrived at the JJB Stadium on 7th March 2000 on a months loan after failing to make the grade for Manchester City in Division One. Terry was not keen to step down a Division but agreed to the move when he was told that his signing could be made permanent if Latics were to win promotion. He made his League debut for Latics on the same day that he signed for the club in a 5-1 win against Blackpool at the JJB Stadium.
Things seemed to be fine and by 8th April 2000 he agreed to stay with Latics for a further month. Towards the end of his loan period he found himself on the bench or omitted from the first team altogether and he returned to Maine Road immediately after Latics’ last League game of the season against Bournemouth. He made 10 League appearances and scored just 1 League goal whilst at the JJB Stadium.
