Tom was signed by Roberto Martinez on a season long loan deal from Manchester United on 31st August 2010. He made his Latics debut on 11 September 2010, which was also his Premier League debut, replacing Mauro Boselli in the 75th minute of a 1-1 home draw against Sunderland.
As the season progressed it bacame obvious that Tom was certainly destined for greater things and he made 19+6 Premier League games for the Blues netting 4 times before returning to Old Trafford.
