Craig started his career as a junior with the Blues and he made his Latics debut on 30th January 2001 against Walsall in a second round Leyland Daf Van Trophy game at the Bescot Stadium. In the 73rd minute of the game, which Latics lost 1-2, he replaced veteran Neil Redfearn.
However, that was his only taste of first team football at the JJB Stadium and he was released at the end of the season without playing a League game for the club.
