He made his League debut on 7th August 1999 against Scunthorpe United in the very first League game played at the JJB Stadium, which resulted in a 3-0 victory. Whilst at the JJB Stadium he became the manager of the Welsh U 21’s squad. He made 7+0 League appearances without scoring and left the club to join Reading on 3rd December 1999. He later teamed up with ex Latics manager Steve Bruce as the first team coach of Crystal Palace.
When Bruce left the Eagles to become the manager of Birmingham City Mark joined him at St Andrews in a similar capacity. In August 2004 he left his post at Birmingham to become assistant manager of Wales for Mark Hughes and when Hughes gave up the Welsh job to manage Blackburn Rovers at the start of season 2004/05 Mark followed him to Ewood Park.
Since then he has also followed Hughes to Manchester City, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City and Southampton! He has also managed Reading and AFC Wimbledon.
