Nigel arrived at Springfield Park in August 1986 from his only other Football League club, Tranmere Rovers, He made his debut on 20th September 1986 against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, sadly for Nigel the game resulted in a 1-5 defeat! Roy Tunks kept Nigel out of the team for most of the 1986/87 and 1987/88 seasons, but he went on to complete six seasons at Springfield Park, making 155 League appearances in total.
He played his last game for the club on 8th May 1993 at Dean Court against AFC Bournemouth where he kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw. He signed for Bangor City as player manager after retiring from the professional game. He went on to have a distinguished managerial career starting with Bangor City before returning to the English game to manage Scunthorpe United, Southampton, Reading, Sheffield United, Hull City and Charlton Athletic. He is currently the manager of the club where his career began, Tranmere Rovers. (Jan 2025)
