David arrived in England from Nigeria in 1993 and started his English career with Bury. He had claimed to have played 22 times for Nigeria as well as having played for Charleroi and Cannes before arriving at Gigg Lane, but this was later confirmed as untrue. He did have a spell in his home country playing for Julius Berger (now Bridge FC).
He arrived at Springfield Park on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth on 14th October 1994. However, he made just 1 (3) League appearances without scoring. He made his debut, as a substitute, on 22nd November 1994 against Northampton Town at the County Ground in a game that the Blues lost 1-0. His final game for Latics was against his former club, Bury at Gigg Lane on 28th December 1994. It was the only game that he started for the club, all his other appearances were as a used substitute. The game resulted in a 3-3 draw. He left Springfield Park on a free transfer to Hereford United on 2nd February 1995.
