Harry McNally signed local lad Barry from Barrow in October 1984 to shore up the defence following Paul Comstive’s decision to sign for Wrexham.
He made his Latics League debut on 6th October 1984 against Newport County in a home fixture that resulted in a 1-1 draw.
He went on to play in the victorious team at Wembley in the inaugural Freight Rover Trophy competition at the end of the season against Brentford.
He replaced the injured John Butler who had picked the injury up in the Northern Final game against Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
He went on to make 124+3 League appearances for the Blues, scoring 3 League goals before being surprisingly released at the end of season 1987/88.
He had won the Player of the Year Award at the end of the previous league campaign.
