Dave was signed by Ian McNeill on a free transfer from Bradford City, for whom he had played for eight seasons, in October 1978. He made his Latics League debut on 7th October 1978 against Huddersfield Town at Leeds Road. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and for the rest of the season Dave’s place in the first team was assured. He spent three seasons at Springfield Park and indeed was an ever present in season 1979/80.
His final game for the club was on 2nd May 1980 in an away fixture against Scunthorpe United which resulted in a 4-4 draw in what was the Blues’ last match of the season. In total he made 111+1 League appearances without scoring before joining Northwich Victoria in the summer of 1982.
