Wayne joined his brother, Warren, at Springfield Park in June 1983 from Non League outfit Atherton Colliries. He made just 1 League appearance without scoring before being released at the end of the 1984/85 season. His League dbut occurred on 24th March 1984 against Preston North End at Springfield Park which Latics won 1-0. In total he played 8 (0) League games for the Blues his last coming on 16th March 1985 against Lincoln City at Sincil Bank which Latics lost 1-0. In the very next game his brother Warren, made his League debut, they were so close to becoming the first brothers to play in the same line up for a League football game for Wigan Athletic!
