Clive was signed by Larry Lloyd from Tranmere Rovers at the start of season 1981/82 and he became a key player during the season in which the Blues won their first ever Football League promotion. On the opening day of the season, 29th August 1981, he made his Latics League debut against Bradford City at Valley Parade. The game was a cracker and resulted in a 3-3 draw with Clive scoring two of the Blues’ goals, thus becoming the first Latics player to score twice on his Football League debut for the club.

He only played this one season for the club before being transferred to Crewe Alexandra, in total he played 29+3 League games for the club during which he scored 2 League goals.  He finished his career at Caernarfon Town in the Northern Premier League.

A bit of Clive Evans trivia… did you know that it was Clive who broke Neil Davids’ leg? The break finished Neil’s career and the tackle occurred on 25th October 1980 in a league game against Tranmere Rovers.
