Richard was released by Manchester City at the end of the 2001/02 season and arrived at the JJB Stadium at the beginning of September 2002 on a trial basis. Paul Jewell signed him on a non-contract basis 0n 21st October 2002 and he played his first, and only, game for the club against Notts County at Meadow Lane in a Leyland Daf Vans Trophy first round game the following day. The game resulted in a 3-2 victory for the Blues.
He finished his career at Macclesfield Town in May 2009.
