John arrived at Springfield Park from Knowsley United at the end of the 1991/92 season and he made his Latics League debut on 28th April 1992. The game, the last home game of the season, was against Birmingham City and Latics ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. He spent four years at Springfield Park without ever really breaking into the first team on a regular basis and he made 29+9 League appearances and scored 5 League goals before being released in May 1996.
After his playing career he became involved in youth coaching at both Merseyside clubs. He finally returned ‘home’ in November 2011 when he was appointed the youth team coach at Latics following the resignation of Dave Watson.
