Julius arrived at the club on 30th January 2007 for a rumoured fee of £2,100,000 from Shaktar Donetsk after being granted a work permit by a special panel in Sheffield earlier in the day.  He followed striker Caleb Folan who had been signed two days previously and this put an end to rumours of Nathan Ellington re signing for Latics from West Bromwich Albion.  He made his Premier League debut on 3rd February 2007 in a 1-0 win against Portsmouth at the JJB Stadium, which put an end to the clubs longest ever spell without a League win (at the time).

He went on to play 5 (15) League games for the Blues without scoring,  His final outing for Latics came on 29th March 2008 and ironically the opposition were the same team that he made his debut against.  This time the game against Portsmouth was at Fratton Park and resulted in a 0-2 defeat.

On 23rd June 2008 he signed for Turkish outfit Kayserispor for an undisclosed fee.  He finished his career with Shaktar Donetsk on 1st July 2012.

As well as playing for Nigeria, he also represented his country in the 2000 Nigerian Olympic team, making 4 appearances and scoring once.
