Steve joined the club on the YTS Scheme and signed professional forms in October 1990. His Latics League debut came on 1st September 1990 when he was a used substitute in a 4-3 defeat against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park. His final League appearance for Latics was on 24th April 1993 against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns, the game resulted in 5-1 defeat. In total he played 31 (17) League games for the Blues netting just once, (Chester City at Springfield Park on 24th March 1993).
He then had a career on the Non League circuit with two spells at Bangor City, Southport and Flint Town United.
