South Liverpool vs Wigan Athletic
Wigan finally got back into match action with a friendly against South Liverpool, the Wigan team was largely made up of young apprentices but a number of first team members made the trip and one of these was ex-South Liverpool player Peter Houghton.
Peter joined Latics for the princely sum of £250 and has been a real favourite with the fans ever since his arrival.
Houghton scored both Wigans goals in a 3-2 defeat but missed a sitter late in the game, John Butler, Kevin Langley and Phil Williams also featured along with new signings John Kilner and Paul Comstive.
The pitch was hard and bumpy and proved a big leveller but new manager Harry McNally declared himself disappointed with the result but happy to have got some minutes into the players legs as they try and improve their fitness levels.
