LEAGUE DIVISION THREE
BRADFORD CITY vs WIGAN ATHLETIC
27th October 1990
LAST-MINUTE HEARTACHE FOR LATICS.
Wigan went to Valley Parade in high spirits and they quickly took control of the game in midfield as they moved the ball well and found some pockets of space. One such passing move found Ray WOODS in a central position and when he slipped past two markers, one of those players being ex-Latics man Jewell, he found himself running at the centre half who could not stop the sudden burst from the Wigan man as he dribbled into the box before placing a low shot into the far corner of the City net.
The goal was no more than Wigan deserved and the travelling fans looked forward to more of the same.
Bradford had other ideas and when Mitchell lofted a ball into the Latics area on 37 minutes Adkins came to collect but MCCARTHY outjumped the Latics man and looped a header into the untenanted goal.
Half Time; Bradford City 1-1 Wigan Athletic.
Latics continued to have the better of the exchanges after the break and with better finishing would have had the game and the three points secured long before the final minute. The Bradford side were high on energy but short on craft, then in the final minute a long goal kick by Tomlinson was flicked on and MCCARTHY outpaced and out muscled the Wigan defenders before applying a cool finish.
Full time; Bradford City 2-1 Wigan Athletic.
