FRIENDLY

WIGAN ATHLETIC vs SWANSEA CITY.

11th August 1982

SWANSEA DISH OUT A LESSON.

First Division big spenders Swansea City breezed into town and promptly gave a weary looking Latics side a lesson in finishing.

Wigan persisted with their new formation with two wingers and just like in the East Fife game it failed to really generate the attacking play that the manager had hoped for.

Swansea were compact and well-organised and offered little by way of chances to the Latics forwards. The first half was a fairly dreary affair with neither side creating much by way of chances.

Half Time; Wigan Athletic 0-0 Swansea City;

The game changed shortly after the break when Barrow made a forward surge and provided a fine cross that was swept home by BRADD.  Swansea responded by stepping up a gear and with a little help from the officials they were soon back on level terms. Robbie JAMES looked to be yards offside when he collected a through ball and lobbed Tunks from 18 yards, but the goal stood. Then substitute Williams was adjudged to have brought down Irwin in the box and JAMES fired home from the spot. The visitors were well now on top and when Glenn miscued a clearance in the 82nd minute it allowed CURTIS to fire home a third goal.

Swansea had not finished yet and as Wigan pushed forward it was Robbie James who turned provider with a perfect through ball that allowed CHARLES to draw Tunks and slide home a fourth.
